Congratulations to Dr Brett Greatley-Hirsch
The ESU warmly congratulates Dr Brett Greatley-Hirsch FHEA FRHS FSA, winner of the 2024 Oldham Wedlick Scholarship for further study and appreciation of the English language.
Dr Greatley-Hirsch gained his BA Hons and PhD from the University of Western Australia. He is now a Professor at Leeds University where he is Chair of Renaissance Literature and Textual Studies. He is preparing an open-access critical edition of Fair Em, the Miller’s Daughter of Manchester, aiming to make the text of this anonymous English Renaissance play accessible to a global readership. The introduction will include discussion of the play's stage history, including an Ohio State University production that will be mounted by Lord Denney's Players. The Scholarship will assist Dr Greatley-Hirsch in travelling to Columbus, Ohio, to attend rehearsals and the full stage production of Fair Em in late 2025.
