Congratulations to Clarence Caddell

The ESU warmly congratulates Clarence Caddell, winner of the 2023 Oldham Wedlick Scholarship for further study and appreciation of the English language.

Mr Caddell is an established poet, with many of his works being published in books, magazines, and/or journals. He is the author of a collection of verse, The True Gods Attend You, published by Bonfire Books. His poems have appeared in Quadrant, The Brazen Head, The Crank and other publications.

Mr Caddell's plan to use the Scholarship to produce a literary journal to ‘foster continuity with the deep tradition of English poetry’ was fulfilled in late 2024 with the launch of Issue 1 (Southern Spring) of The Borough, a journal of poetry. The journal has received positive notices in the 'Friday Links' newsletter of US literary journal Dappled Things in September 2024 and in the Bonfire Books newsletter on Substack. 

The journal is listed with Writers Victoria and Writers SA as a forum for new work.

Issue 2 (Southern Summer) was published in January 2025.
